Campaigns. It is important that I continue to know the strength of feeling on an issue and I prefer to respond to every inquiry, but the sheer size of campaign correspondence means that it is hard to justify to the tax payer the cost and time taken for individual written replies, so regrettably I will no longer reply to every item of campaign correspondence.  I will  post a response to the campaign on the "Responses to campaigns" page of my website.

I am sorry to do this, as it is rather impersonal, but can see no other way of maintaining a good service for all my constituents unless I approach campaigns this way.

Minimum Income Requirement

Thank you for taking the time to email me about the Minimum Income Requirement, which means that British people who earn less than £18,600 a year cannot be joined in the UK by a partner from outside the European Economic Area.

I appreciate your concern on this matter, however I know that the Supreme Court has upheld the lawfulness of the minimum income requirement for spouse visas, which is set at a level where partners would not immediately need state support on arrival.

The Supreme Court agreed that it strikes a fair balance between the interests of those wishing to sponsor a spouse to settle in the UK and of the community in general. The Home Office must regularly review this threshold.
