Campaigns. It is important that I continue to know the strength of feeling on an issue and I prefer to respond to every inquiry, but the sheer size of campaign correspondence means that it is hard to justify to the tax payer the cost and time taken for individual written replies, so regrettably I will no longer reply to every item of campaign correspondence.  I will  post a response to the campaign on the "Responses to campaigns" page of my website.

I am sorry to do this, as it is rather impersonal, but can see no other way of maintaining a good service for all my constituents unless I approach campaigns this way.

TV Licences Over 75s

Thank you for taking the time to email me about tv licenses for over 75s and the debate that was held on this matter, I am afraid I was unable to attend due to prior commitments.

I realise you would like to see free tv licenses for over 75s maintained and during the debate the Minister responsible highlighted that the Government and the BBC agreed back in 2015 that responsibility for the concession for the over-75s would transfer to the BBC in June 2020. As such, the future of the concession is entirely the BBC's decision and it is for the BBC to decide whether it wants to maintain the current concession or to take a different path. You can read the full transcript of the debate here.

The BBC ran a consultation on this topic and I do hope you were able to contribute to this before it closed on the 12th of February. The responses the BBC receives to the consultation they ran will help them decide what to do next and I know they will publish the outcome later this year. You can find out more about this here.
