World Health Organisation

World Health Organisation & World Mental Health Day I was invited to speak at the World Health Organisation to take part in the initial discussions about their draft mental health proposals and to discuss the work that has been done in the UK to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health and spread a message about early diagnosis, prevention and recovery. Clearly there is much to be done to further reduce the tragedy of suicide and promote wellbeing and access to treatment. Britain is widely respected for our commitment to introduce parity of esteem for mental illness and to reduce stigma. It was also an opportunity to discuss the mental health discrimination bill and how governments can act to reduce statutory discrimination.
